Newton's Laws of Motion

Your team must do the following:
1. Have a skit that demonstrates one of Newton’s Laws of motion
2. Have an online or offline poster demonstrating a law.
3. Have an animation that shows one law of motion.
All three laws must be presented.
Newton’s Laws are:
First Law
An object at rest will stay at rest unless a force acts on it. An object in motion will stay in motion unless a force acts on it. = animation
Second Law
The more mass an object has, the harder it is to put it in motion or stop it if it is already in motion. = poster
Third Law
For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. = skit
Group Jobs
1. Come up with an action plan - who does what
2. Meet back in regular intervals , 15 min?, 20 min? Less?
3. Discuss progress and give helpful feedback

OOTM

Problem 3: ARchitecture: The Musical
Divisions I, II, III & IV
For this problem, teams will create and present an original performance that includes a replica of a documented architectural structure that was built between 1,000 AD and 1,600 AD. The performance will include three works of art that "disappear" and two characters that go on a quest to find them. When the works of art are found, they will be incorporated into the replica. The performance must also include two songs that are accompanied by some type of choreographed movement.
Cost limit: $125 USD.

Dancing: Hanna mercedes hayden and izzy
Singing: noah
Acting: everyone
People on quest: noah and izzy

Does salt water effect plant growth?

State The Problem: Does salt water effect plant growth

Gather Info: Salt water affects plants by dehydrating them. Salt water also affects plant by stunting there
growth. The affect that the salt water has on plants depends on how much salt water is in it.

Hypothesis: I think the salt water plant will die and the regular water will be just fine.

Experiment Steps:
1.  you get 4 cups
2. you get the lima bean
3. you get the plastic wrap
4. you get the paper towel
5. After that you put some salt and water in one of the cups
6. Then you label the salt water cup
7. then you get another cup and put just regular tap in the cup
8. then you label the tap water cup
9. you get the two other cups and sit them down beside you, you will need them in a second
10. You get the lima bean and you wrap the lima bean in the paper towel ( tip: leave the lima bean a little bit out so it can get some sun)
11. then you wet the paper towel that has the lima bean in it
12.  then you put the lima bean with the paper towel wrapped around it in a cup
13. Poor out the remaining water from the cup
14.  after that you do the 10th, 11th and 12th step again with the last cup ( but you use tap water instead of saltwater)
15. Then you put the cups with the lima beans in them by your window seal so your bean can get sunlight to grow
16. Then check your lima beans every day to see the results

Results: 9/17/2012 My fresh water plant is growing better then the salt water. The salt water plant is not growing at all.

Surface/Water Tension

Surface Tension
Vocabulary:
Surface Tension:  when the top of the liquid pushes together and stops some objects going threw.
Molecules: A group of atoms mostly stuck together.
What you think will happen when the dishwasher soap is touched to the milk? I think it will bubble.
What really happened? The soap sinked into the milk and pushed the gatorade away.
Why did it happen? Because the soap took away the surface tension.

Axolotl The Final Story

  • Cold Water
  • Clean Water
  • Calm Water
  • Dechlorinated water
  • Use a sponge filter to keep the water from moving to much
  • Axoltols should be able to smell there food
  • There food should be soft and sink
  • Don't use live food
  • No outside source of food
  • There are not many fish that can go in with axolotls
  • Ghost shrimp can go in the tank
  • Snails can go in the the tank
  • use big gravel or none at all
  • Gill infection if water too warm If that happens but the axolotl in fridge
  • They can get a missing limb put them in the fridge and the limb will grow back

Egg Dropping

1. My guess for the height of when an egg will break from a fall is 6 cm
2. The actual height of when an egg will break from a fall is 13 cm.
3. My guess for how many paper towels are needed to save the egg from breaking from a 25 cm fall i
4. The actual amount for how many paper towels are needed to save the egg from breaking from a 10 cm fall is?

my genetics

Hypothesis, Theory and laws

Hypothesis (good guess):
I think when you shake soda up all of the caffeine goes away.

Scientific Theory (has to be proven over and over again):

The evolution theory.

Law:(cannot be disproven)

Newton's Laws of Motion

The first of the three laws states an object in motion stays in motion unless acted upon by an outside force. For a ball rolling across the floor, that outside force could be the friction between the ball and the floor, or it could be the toddler that kicks the ball in another direction.

Laws of Thermodynamics

Evolution and Natural Selection

In a basic sense, this differentiation occurred through evolution, through descent with modification [source: UCMP].Populations of organisms developed different traits, through mechanisms such as mutation. Those with traits that were more beneficial to survival such as, a frog whose brown coloring allows it to be camouflaged in a swamp, were naturally selected for survival; hence the term natural selection.

What is science?

  • Uses chemicals
  • Periodic table
  • experimenting
  • learning
  • exploring
  • discovery
  • collaborating
  • life
  • energy, space, power
  • measuring, math
Some myths have seen on Myth busters . They took a bunch of peoples ear wax and they made it into a candle and was trying to make it burn just like a real candle. Another time they tried to see if balloons could hold up a small child. They also tried to see if you can build a boat out of rain coats.
The molten lead was confirmed. The ear wax candle was busted. The gun powder was busted. If you stick your hand in a bowl of water you will wet yourself was busted. If the coconut can be sent without a package it was confirmed.
The best part of the whole show was watching there faces when they saw the coconut come back.
Yes it is science because they are seeing if stuff is true or not and that can get us farther in science.
The most dangerous was the gun powder one.
the one thing I think should be on myth busters is can you eat stuff that says you cant eat.

genes

Name at least 2 different types of cells found in your body.

Blood cells, skin cells and nerve cells

2. What are the four basic letter codes to make DNA?

ATCG

3. What do genes do for a cell or a body?

tell what you are.

4. How many chromosomes do humans have?

23 pairs of chromosomes.

axolotls

What is the approximate latitude and longitude of the lake where the Axolotls live?
19 north 98 west.

2. Post a screen shot of Google Earth showing where the Axolotl lives.

What group of animals does the Axolotl belong to (amphibians, reptiles,
fish or mammals)

Amphibians.

4. What makes the Axolotl different from other salamanders?

a salamander can go on land a axolotl can't.

If you were to visit Lake Xochimilco, where would you go to eat for lunch?

I would eat at tortilleria.

science demo-resenece

what i think will happen when  the sound is played for the wine glass is going to breack.

what really happened was it didn't breack.

what does resenense have to do with bridge building. the workers have to worry about the resenese of the bridge so it dosen't fall.
